FAQs

Not all ACL injuries require surgery. The decision for surgery depends on the severity of the injury, the individual’s activity level, and their future goals. Some partial tears or less severe injuries may be treated with rehabilitation alone.
ACL reconstruction surgery involves replacing the torn ligament with a graft, often taken from the patient’s own hamstring or patellar tendon or from a donor. The surgery is typically performed arthroscopically.
Recovery time varies, but it often takes several months to return to normal activities and sports. Initial rehabilitation focuses on reducing swelling and restoring range of motion, followed by strengthening exercises and gradually reintroducing functional activities.
While it’s challenging to prevent all ACL injuries, athletes can reduce their risk by incorporating neuromuscular training, proper warm-up routines, and strength training into their fitness regimen. Additionally, using proper techniques during sports activities can help prevent injury.
Yes, many individuals can return to sports after recovering from an ACL injury. The timing depends on the severity of the injury, the type of treatment, and the success of rehabilitation. Athletes are often advised to undergo a gradual and supervised return-to-sport program.
ACL injuries are more common in sports that involve sudden stops, changes in direction, and jumping, such as soccer, basketball, football, and skiing. However, they can occur in any sport or physical activity.
Untreated ACL injuries can lead to chronic instability, increased risk of meniscal tears, and early onset of knee osteoarthritis. Seeking timely and appropriate treatment is essential for preventing long-term complications.

Can’t say enough about Wes

I hurt my leg training for a marathon and after working with him a few months, my leg feels GREAT! I just got home from a trip to Europe that I was a little worried about. I felt 100% the 2nd or 3rd day in Paris - maybe it was the 12-13 miles we were walking every day, maybe it was the French bread/wine, maybe it was both. Since i've been back, i've been riding my (indoor) bike too, just trying to get my leg stronger (still going to the gym, still doing my exercises).

THANK YOU for all of your efforts, your knowledge, your patience. I couldn't have done it without your guidance.  And it is 100000% appreciated.

Skilled and very engaging

I found Wes while he was at Diablo PT via Yelp when I needed help with severe sciatic pain. I was able to schedule sessions with Wes and was amazed at his knowledge, skill and very engaging personality.

At no time did I ever feel that I was getting a "cookie cutter" problem. He listens very well and works with you as an individual to provide exactly what you need.

I can't say enough good things about Wes and how much he helped me fully recover and get even better than I was before my injury.

I feel better each time I leave

Wes Anderson is one of the best physical therapist I have ever had. He is professional, bright, explains everything he is doing to strengthen my body, and I feel better each time I leave. He does not just give you a massage. He is breaking down tight muscles and gives me more flexibility and movement.
